![]() (Here is what my settings look like for reference) ![]() On a good GPU you can increase Grass fade, but this setting is what kills FPS in Whitespring and is probably best left alone. Once all settings have been applied, restart the game and double check the settings to make sure the game is running in fullscreen, as sometimes it doesn't always apply first time due to a bug. If you have performance issues just leave this at the default value for Medium or you can try half way on the slider. Max out "Actor Fade" so you can see enemies from far away, but leave all other sliders alone. Set "Depth of Field" and "Field of View" to your preference. Shadow distance should be set to (Low) regardless of your hardware. Set Shadow quality to (High) or (Medium) on low end PC's. Manually set Textures, Water & Lighting to the (Max) settings, or (Medium) on lower end graphics cards with less VRAM/Memory. Use the "Medium" preset for graphics, the presets also changes some extra settings the user can't access from the games graphics options. Launch the game and set it to Fullscreen in the settings, it may ask you to restart the game. (Bethesda really should add a Vsync toggle in game). Personally this makes no difference for me due to improvements made by Microsoft to fullscreen optimizations in recent Windows updates. Can in some cases help games that use DX11 or older. (Optional) Disable fullscreen optimizations for the Fallout76.exe in the games main directory. What I would recommend most people do is (Even on top end hardware). I have tested this and found additional changes in the config/ini files. So for example even if you put it on the Ultra preset and manually lowered everything to what the Medium preset uses it still won't run as well as just using the Medium preset. The presets also change some settings you can't actually access from within the game. The Medium preset, looks almost identical to max when tweaked. I have my game capped at 90FPS and can maintain 80-90 the majority of the time after adjusting my settings. The characters are cute, the concept is a little Worms and appeals to the ’90s kid in us all, and damn, if the game didn’t make quite the impact on the download market. It’s the workhorse of the adaptation game. On a wing and an Angry Bird-like prayerĪngry Birds 2, on the other hand, is fine. It had a huge audience and appealed to those two crowds well. There were enough small references for those who had prior experience with the series - like the classic Game Boy-esque battle music - and stuff everyone could understand like its cute cast of creatures. Rather than skating on the peripheries of the universe, it engages with the politics and rules of the Poke-verse clearly and enticingly enough to bring in fans and non-fans alike. The joy of Detective Pikachu, as one critic put it, is that in this film Hollywood understands Pokemon. The success here makes almost perfect sense, though: solid marketing, fairly well-written ,and beautifully animated, coming off the back of a successful franchise and hitting the market in the sweet-spot post the general furor of Pokemon Go. Admittedly, it’s still uncanny to hear the dulcet tones of Ryan Reynolds from that tiny creature, but that’s sort of the point. Detective Pikachu broke the mold by creating a fairly standalone cutesy premise, but really, it was destined for success when the first images came out and we lost our hearts to that yellow puff-ball beauty. Pokemon, however, delivered Detective Pikachu in the golden hour, and avoided the fate of the Mario Brothers. The Prince of Persia (despite accusations of racially insensitive casting), most of the Resident Evil films, and even Max Payne have all been financial successes, but the crown currently goes to Detective Pikachu. When we get adaptations of well-known, beloved classics, inevitably, these will fall short of our great expectations. The thing about them is that we as an audience are extremely picky about the offerings. There have been a plethora of video game adaptations down the years, some more successful than others but Super Mario Bros. In the years since, however, in a similar way to The Room, the film has picked up a fond cult following. The film, built on an insane pseudo- Ghostbuster, part Labyrinth-style premise was a box office failure, grossing less than half of the production cost, and blighting Nintendo’s reputation to the point that future productions were limited. A very good year but not for the brothers themselves. ![]() The first, and arguably most cult offering in the field was the critical failure of Super Mario Brothers from 26 years ago. Video game adaptations are hardly uncharted territory. In the wake of one of the first largely successful video game adaptations, Angry Birds 2 might be holding its own in the pre-American market, but it is one odd duck in the video game film department as a whole.Īdvertisement The ghosts of brother’s past Detective Pikachu emerged from a fairly comprehensive cultural moment, however, and a universe of Pokemon and people which have been influencing fashion, games, and literature for the past 23 years. ![]() We’ve had 18 (count ‘em) iterations of the game for different devices, a line of toys, an animated TV series and now, for the second time, the small birds are on the big screen.Īdaptations of video games have been something of a poisoned chalice in the past, but we are really in prime adaptation territory these days, with the runaway success of Detective Pikachu earlier this year. However, it’s been 10 years since that first foray, and the anniversary is being marked by the second outing in movie form. ![]() It was an admirable way to disappear during your commute or to avoid speaking to co-workers on your lunch break. As a game, it was compulsive, fun, and the harmless concept was accessible. Angry Birds 2 is the movie adaptation that few of us knew we needed, and even fewer have the energy to argue against. This differs from the 1D one- or two-component magnonic crystals studied earlier, where almost dispersionless branches appear well above the dispersive branches. Interestingly, the experimental magnonic band structure reveals spin wave modes with near-nondispersive behavior and having frequencies below that of the highly dispersive fundamental mode (see below). The measured phononic dispersion spectrum features a Bragg gap opening at the Brillouin zone (BZ) boundary, and a large hybridization bandgap, whose origin is different from those reported for other 1D-periodic phononic crystals. The dispersions of surface spin and acoustic waves were measured by Brillouin light scattering (BLS) which is a powerful probe of such excitations in nanostructured materials. It is also of interest to explore the effects on the magnonic dispersion when the material of one of the elements in a bicomponent magphonic crystal is a non-magnetic one. Hence, the phononic dispersion is expected to be significantly different from those of Py/Fe(Ni). Py and BARC were selected as materials for the high elastic and density contrasts between them. In this work, the magphonic crystal studied is a 1D periodic array of alternating Py and bottom anti-reflective coating (BARC) nanostripes deposited on an Si(001) substrate (abbreviated to Py/BARC). are small, being of the order of 0.5 GHz. Indeed the phonon bandgaps of the 1D and 2D structures measured by Zhang et al. In general, the phononic bandgap width increases with elastic and density contrasts. As the materials of the elements of these bicomponent arrays are both metals, namely either Py/Co, Py/Fe, or Py/Ni, the elastic and density contrasts between adjacent elements are rather low. experimentally studied these materials in the form of a two-dimensional (2D) chessboard-patterned array of cobalt and Ni 80Fe 20 (Permalloy, Py) dots, and one-dimensional (1D) periodic arrays of alternating Fe (or Ni) and Py nanostripes on SiO 2/Si substrates (henceforth referred to as Py/Fe(Ni)). Magphonic crystals were theoretically studied by Nikitov et al. Hence, they are potentially more useful technologically than either solely magnonic or phononic crystals which depend on a single type of excitation, namely magnons or phonons, as the respective information carrier. Although less well known than phoxonic materials, they too have promising application potential because of the possibility of the simultaneous control and manipulation of magnon and phonon propagation in them. Another class of metamaterials possessing dual-excitation bandgaps is magnonic-phononic or magphonic crystals. The present work builds a microscopic connection between electronic structure and giant anharmonic phonon scattering, providing new insights on the low lattice thermal conductivity of Mg 3Bi 2, and paves the way to design novel high-efficient thermoelectrics for application in energy recycling and refrigeration.Photonic-phononic crystals, also referred to as phoxonic crystals, are of great interest as their dual photonic and phononic bandgaps allow the simultaneous control of photon and phonon propagation in these crystals. Furthermore, we propose that the giant anharmonicty is associated with the asymmetric Bismuth 6s lone-pair electrons. In this work, the giant anharmonic phonon modes are experimentally observed via measuring temperature-dependent inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) for Mg 3Bi 2 single-crystal, which is also verified by the anomalously large Grüneisen parameters and frozen phonon potential calculations. Understanding the microscopic thermal transport behavior and its correlation with bonding, lattice dynamics are critical to improve the thermoelectric performance and design new promising functional materials. However, the underlying physics of this low lattice thermal conductivity in a simple hexagonal crystal structure of Mg 3Bi 2 remain puzzling. Mg 3Bi 2-based materials exhibit high thermoelectric performance at ambient temperature benefitting from their low lattice thermal conductivity. ![]() You can change the pin whenever you feel the need to change it. Posing as a German heiress with a $60 million trust fund, Delvey, born Anna Sorokin in Russia in 1991, operates behind a smoke screen of forged documents and flimsy status signifiers: She name-drops Doris Salcedo, shops at Rick Owens, and “knows that excellent salmon is at Lucien.” She charms M Woods Museum founder Michael Xufu Huang and Nobu restaurateur Richie Notar at a Storm King benefit (“a fundraiser for their inner-city arts program”), where people say things like “immaterially in dialogue with transitory spaces” and “it’s very postmodern,” and swans around the Whitney with her lawyer, advising him to switch out the dun landscape hanging in his office for a saucy Cecily Brown (acquired, puzzlingly, directly from the museum). It’s an apt, if less than subtle, set piece for the tale of Delvey, a hardscrabble arriviste who begged, borrowed, and stole from New York’s financial and cultural elite in a Gatsbyean crusade to erect her eponymous trophy museum– cum–Soho House–style members’ club in the landmarked Church Missions House building on Park Avenue South (now home to Swedish photography center Fotografiska). “Rather than being forced into a role in the male-dominated art world, she takes a leading role in her work. Then, one day, she steps into her own frame, considers herself to be worthy.” Delvey’s apocryphal art-history lesson doesn’t just impress Talia it effectively recodes an eidolon of postmodern masquerade as a totem of self-actualization, sprinkled with the fairy dust of Lean-in feminism. “Before this series, Sherman was just another photographer hiding behind the lens, observing, choosing subjects based on what others might like. ![]() It’s the second episode of Shonda Rhimes’s Netflix caper Inventing Anna, and our protagonist, inhabited with steely grace by Julia Garner, is at a benefit auction with fictitious lifestyle mogul Talia Mallay (Jennifer Esposito), persuading her to buy Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still #17, 1978, in lieu of a jaundiced specimen of zombie formalism hanging across the room. “THE ONLY THING worth a dime in here is her,” Anna Delvey says as she gestures, champagne flute in hand, toward a black-and-white photograph of a young babushka-clad woman-somewhere between gamine on the go and Hitchcock heroine-floating past a brick apartment tower, a look of cool determination fixed in her liquid-lined eyes.
